A probe with a wire plugs into the base of this unit. Sitting in the base is a device into which you program a temperature of your own choosing or one suggested by the unit.
It will keep you apprised of your food's progress by signaling you with light and beeps, and also offers a voice option that says, 'Your food is almost ready,' or, 'Your food is ready.' The device can remain sitting in the base or you can remove it to use as a remote up to 150 feet away — far enough to allow you to go chat in the family room or check on the wash.
