Hail Citizen! Please subscribe and read our sidebar before you post! I have a hankering to play some Oblivion again, with a shit ton of mods (of course). Up until now, the mods I have played with, I have been able to get by just using OMM. Pretty basic mods, to say the least. We all know that for a massive amount of mods, you need to get serious and use WyreBash and TES4Edit and the such, but you also should have your game installed outside of steam. As far as I know, the only way to do that is to move the WHOLE library somewhere else, not something I'd like to do. Is it possible to just get Oblivion to install somewhere else?

Does anyone have any experience doing this? Thanks in advance, guys!. As others mentioned, the main issue with the Steam install is that games are installed to Program Files (x86). Windows UAC cause all sorts of issues for modding. The easiest solution is to move your Oblivion install to a location outside of Program Files (x86).
SInce you already have it installed, what I did is to use Steams 'Backup and Restore' function in the File menu, to backup the game into an archive file. Uninstall teh game, and the use the 'Backup and Restore' function to reinstall the game to a new Steam Library. When you select to install a game, you can choose to create a new Library in a new location. You can have multiple libraries, so this doesn't affect any other games you have installed. For instance, I have a Steam library dedicated on an SSD (E:) and I have Skyrim and Oblivion installed in that library.

All my other games are in my Library located at C:SteamLibrary. So I use Wrye Bash, and it works very well, except for OMODs.
You could use OBMM to install those mods, but in my game I only have one or two that only came in OMOD format. So I just unpacked their archivea into a directory, and configured it by hand.

I forget which mods required this, but though it was a bit of a nuisance, it wasn't a deal breaker.Basically, I had to go through the directories and select the ones that had the options I need for my setup, and I combined them into a single Data directory structure. Once I had all the files organized into a new subdirectory, ready to load into the OblivionData directory, I repackaged it into a new.rar file and installed it using Wrye Bash.It is a nuisance, but this allowed me to keep all my install packages in WB, so I could reorder my packages, uninstall, reinstall, etc. Wrye Bash is really a great system for managing your mods.
